AquaVial COLI — Total Coliform Water Test

Wholesale foundational coliform test for distributors building a cost-effective water-quality lineup. Visual color-change readout with no incubator and no lab work.

How it works

Each vial contains a chromogenic β-galactosidase substrate. Add the water sample, incubate at room temperature, and read the color change — a positive result indicates the presence of total coliform bacteria.

Detection limits

  • Sensitivity: 1 CFU/mL
  • Time to result: 24–72 hours

Applications

  • Private well water
  • Light-industrial process water
  • Field surveys and screening
  • Distributor entry-level offering

Key features

  • Cost-effective foundational coliform test
  • Aligned with Standard Methods 9221
  • Color-coded visual readout — no instrument
  • Manufactured in Canada under ISO 9001

Pack sizes / variants

  • AVC-025 — 25-pack

How it works

AquaVial COLI is the foundational ExactBlue coliform vial — chromogenic β-galactosidase chemistry that turns color when coliform bacteria are present. Same reaction as EX Coliform but tuned for cost-effective routine screening at 1 CFU/mL.

1

Collect 5 mL water sample

2

Incubate

3

Incubate at recommended temperature for the specified time

4

Read result by visible color change; act on positive results

Comparison

vs. traditional lab testing

Traditional method

Membrane filtration lab culture (ISO 9308-1 / Standard Methods 9221)

Off-site, multi-day turnaround. Requires lab account, membrane filtration manifold, and qualified microbiology technician. Per-test cost from $40–$120 plus shipping.

With ExactBlue

On-site, same-day result

Cheapest CFU/mL across the catalogue ($2.75/test distributor). Replaces routine MPN tube cultures for surface / waste water screening.

Detection chemistry

How it detects

β-galactosidase

Detects coliforms through enzyme-mediated color change. Galactosidase activity hydrolyzes the chromogenic substrate, producing a visible color shift proportional to bacterial concentration.
