AquaVial EX Very Sensitive — Coliform & E. coli Enhancer

Wholesale amplification enhancer that boosts AquaVial EX coliform and E. coli kits down to 0.01 CFU/mL (1 CFU/100 mL) — the regulatory drinking-water specification.

How it works

The AVX enhancer is paired with a base ACX-025 (coliform) or AEX-025 (E. coli) vial. Combined β-galactosidase and β-glucuronidase chemistry plus the amplification step increases the effective sample volume, lowering the detection floor.

Detection limits

  • Sensitivity: 0.01 CFU/mL (1 CFU/100 mL)
  • Time to result: 7–24 hours

Applications

  • Drinking-water compliance verification
  • Bottled water and beverage QA
  • Pharma utility water
  • Distributor add-on for higher-sensitivity tiers

Key features

  • Reaches the 1 CFU/100 mL drinking-water spec
  • Aligned with EPA 1604 and Standard Methods 9221
  • Pairs with existing AquaVial EX base vials — no new workflow
  • Manufactured in Canada under ISO 9001

Pack sizes / variants

How it works

The AVX enhancer concentrates and amplifies the 100 mL sample so that 1 CFU/100 mL is detectable using a standard ACX (Coliform) or AEX (E. coli) vial. The chemistry is unchanged; the AVX kit adds the sample-prep and concentration step that pushes sensitivity 100-fold.

1

Pour 100 mL sample and concentrate using the AVX concentration kit

2

Incubate

3

Break the ampoule and wait 15 minutes for color change

4

Read visible color change in the vial

Comparison

vs. traditional lab testing

Traditional method

Membrane filtration lab culture (ISO 9308-1 / Standard Methods 9221)

Off-site, multi-day turnaround. Requires lab account, membrane filtration manifold, and qualified microbiology technician. Per-test cost from $40–$120 plus shipping.

With ExactBlue

On-site, same-day result

Drinking-water-spec sensitivity without a membrane filtration setup. Pairs with the base EX vials customers already stock.

Detection chemistry

How it detects

β-galactosidase / β-glucuronidase + amplification enhancer

Detects coliforms through enzyme-mediated color change. Galactosidase activity hydrolyzes the chromogenic substrate, producing a visible color shift proportional to bacterial concentration.
