How it works
AquaVial PRO500 uses gold-nanoparticle Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) chemistry. Bacterial cell surface molecules trigger nanoparticle aggregation, producing a visible color shift in 15 minutes — without incubation. The 500 CFU/mL threshold matches CDC dental waterline and many drinking-water screening guidelines.
Collect 20-50 ml sample in a clean cup and concentrate it using the sample concentration kit provided
add concentrated sample to the test vial
Wait 15 minutes at room temperature (20-25°C)
Read result by visible color/clarity change; positive ≥ 500 CFU/mL

Comparison
vs. traditional lab testing
Membrane filtration lab culture (ISO 9215 R2A media (7 day incubation))
Off-site, multi-day turnaround. Requires lab account, membrane filtration manifold, and qualified microbiology technician. Per-test cost from $40–$120 plus shipping.
On-site, same-day result
True rapid result (15 min vs hours/days); zero equipment beyond the vial; pass/fail at the 500 CFU/mL action threshold.
Detection chemistry
How it detects
SPR nanoparticle
Uses surface plasmon resonance nanoparticles that change color when binding to bacterial cell-wall surface markers. Direct visual readout in 15-60 minutes.
